Le 16 août 1925, la Rheinische Städtebundtheater GmbH a été fondée et a son siège à Neuss. Outre la ville de Neuss, les communes de Buer, Kleve, Emmerich, Gladbeck, Kohlscheid, Stolberg ainsi que la communauté artistique de Lüdenscheid et le district de Solingen étaient membres de l’association de parrainage. En 1937, il a été rebaptisé « Rheinisches Landestheater ». Pour le 30e anniversaire du théâtre, la ville a fait construire le bâtiment à Drususallee, qui est resté le lieu permanent de la scène jusqu’en 2000. En 1981, le Rheinisches Landestheater fusionne avec le Theater am Niederrhein Kleve, avec lequel il avait précédemment coopéré. Le 16 décembre 2000, le nouveau lieu, dans la « Horten-Haus », a été inauguré dans l’Oberstraße.
