Op 16 augustus 1925 werd de Rheinische Städtebundtheater GmbH opgericht, met zetel in Neuss. Lidgemeenten van de draagvereniging waren naast de zetelstad Neuss de gemeenten Buer, Kleve, Emmerich, Gladbeck, Kohlscheid, Stolberg, evenals de kunstgemeente Lüdenscheid en de Landkreis Solingen. In 1937 kreeg het de naam „Rheinisches Landestheater“. Ter gelegenheid van het 30-jarig jubileum van het theater liet de stad het gebouw aan de Drususallee bouwen, dat tot 2000 een vaste speelplek van het podium bleef. In 1981 fuseerde het Rheinische Landestheater met het Theater am Niederrhein Kleve, waarmee het eerder al had samengewerkt. Op 16 december 2000 werd de nieuwe speelplek, in het „Horten-Haus“, aan de Oberstraße geopend.
