Il 16 agosto 1925 fu fondata la Rheinische Städtebundtheater GmbH con sede a Neuss. I membri dell'associazione oltre alla città di Neuss erano i comuni di Buer, Kleve, Emmerich, Gladbeck, Kohlscheid, Stolberg, nonché la comunità artistica di Lüdenscheid e il distretto di Solingen. Nel 1937 avvenne la rinominazione in "Teatro Regionale Renano". In occasione del 30° anniversario del teatro, la città fece costruire l'edificio in Drususallee, che rimase sede fissa del palcoscenico fino al 2000. Nel 1981 il Teatro Regionale Renano si fuse con il Teatro am Niederrhein Kleve, con cui aveva già collaborato. Il 16 dicembre 2000 venne inaugurato il nuovo luogo di rappresentazione, nella "Horten-Haus", in Oberstraße.
