Nierswalde a été créé après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, conjointement avec Reichswalde, en tant que colonie de défrichement dans la forêt impériale, afin de pouvoir attribuer un site d'installation, entre autres, aux personnes déplacées de l'ancienne région orientale. Le nom « Nierswalde » a été attribué à la colonie créée en 1948 en 1952. Étant donné que des protestants s'étaient principalement installés à Nierswalde, une église évangélique y a été construite en 1956, tandis que Reichswalde est principalement catholique. D'une part, une église néo-apostolique a été construite entre 1969 et 1972.
