Le réservoir de Tavascan, à 1100 m d'altitude, se trouve dans la vallée de Cardós, dans la comarque de Pallars Sobirà, à la confluence des rivières Noguera de Lladorre et Tavascan. Après le barrage, la rivière de Lladorre continue jusqu'au village du même nom et, plus bas, se transforme en la rivière Noguera de Cardós, affluent de la Noguera Pallaresa.
