Het stuwmeer van Tavascan, op 1100 m hoogte, bevindt zich in de vallei van Cardós, in de regio Pallars Sobirà, op de samenvloeiing van de rivieren Noguera de Lladorre en Tavascan. Achter het reservoir stroomt de rivier van Lladorre door naar het gelijknamige dorp en verderop gaat het over in de rivier Noguera de Cardós, een zijrivier van de Noguera Pallaresa.
