Il y a 4000 ans, la Bure accueille ses premiers habitants. Mais c'est surtout du 1er siècle avant notre ère après JC que la Bure est organisée en camp retranché à l'abri derrière des murailles. Des huttes et des lieux de culte sont édifiés, des activités artisanales complètent l'économie agricole et pastorale. Les fouilles menées de 1964 à 1986 ont révélé ce qui fait l'intérêt et la richesse du camp, le 2e site archéologique du département des Vosges. Les vestiges sont conservés au Musée Pierre-Noël.
