La caserne « Bellevue », construite par la Ville en 1911, est alors composée d’une vingtaine de bâtiments destinés à accueillir trois bataillons. Le 174ème Régiment d’Infanterie s’y installera le 1er juillet 1911. Après 1918, la caserne prend le nom de « Bataille » en souvenir du Général Henri Jules Bataille (1816-1882) qui s’était distingué à la tête de la 2ème Division lors de la bataille de Forbach-Spicheren le 6 août 1870.
