La Quatrième République, ou IVe République, est le régime républicain en vigueur en France du 27 octobre 1946 au 4 octobre 1958. Elle est instituée après la période du Gouvernement provisoire de la République française , qui fait suite à la libération de la France de l'occupation allemande. Malgré la grave crise qu'avait connue la Troisième République au cours des années 1930, elle reste globalement fidèle au modèle de la république parlementaire qui s'était imposé à partir de 1875.
