Fief de la famille Vaudémont et de la sulfureuse Henriette de Lorraine dite « princesse Henriette ». Cette petite citée fut fondé par le comte Palatin George Gustave. Jadis Principauté d’Empire ou l’on frappait monnaie à son effigie. De cette époque Lixheim conserve un riche patrimoine architectural, avec entre-autre : La fontaine monumentale datant de 1627, l’hôtel de la monnaie, l’église Saint Antoine. Ainsi que de nombreuses maisons avec de beaux oriels de façade, typique de l’architecture de l’Est de l’Europe.
