Feudo della famiglia Vaudémont e della sensuale Henriette de Lorraine, nota come "Principessa Henriette". Questa piccola città fu fondata dal conte palatino Giorgio Gustavo. In passato, era un principato imperiale dove venivano coniate monete a sua immagine e somiglianza. Lixheim possiede un ricco patrimonio architettonico risalente a questo periodo, che comprende La fontana monumentale del 1627, la zecca, la chiesa di Sant'Antonio. Ci sono anche molte case con bellissimi ornamenti sulla facciata, tipici dell'architettura dell'Europa orientale.
