Le château de la Villette fut reconstruit dans la deuxième moitié du XVI°s à la suite des dégâts faits par l’armée de Charles Quint en 1552.Le Cardinal Mazarin y séjourna en 1651 pendant la Fronde. Après avoir appartenu au duché de Rethel puis à Marguerite de Belaux, le château devient en 1767, propriété de Jean-Franis Maucomble, conseiller secrétaire du roi et seigneur de Glaire.Situé en bord de Meuse, ce château de défense Renaissance s'est métamorphosé avec le temps en château de plaisance avec des jardins à la française.Le château de Villette et ses jardins sont inscrits à l'inventaire supplémentaire des Monuments historiques.
