Il fut établi en 1830 pour permettre les charges d'entrainement des régiments de cavalerie, dont le XXème dragon. L'oeuvre des frères Bühler, célèbres paysagistes du XIXe siècle, a été malheureusement oubliée. Le jardin a été entirement reconstruit dans sa partie basse vers 1928. Près du grand bassin, on admirera les massifs végétaux, décorés suivant la technique spécifique de la mosaïculture. Privé aujourd'hui de ses bronzes, fondus pendant la guerre, il doit son cachet aux massifs fleuraux et aux arbres qui l'agrémentent.
