L’Anglesey est une île et un comté de l’extrême nord-ouest du pays de Galles, dont elle est séparée, au sud-est, par une mince étendue d’eau connue sous le nom de détroit de Menai que deux ponts enjambent.
Le premier d’entre eux est le pont suspendu de Menai sur lequel passe l’A5 construit par Thomas Telford en 1826 et le second, plus récent bien que reconstruit à deux reprises est le pont Britannia, sur lequel passe l’A55 et la ligne de chemin de fer North Wales Coast Line.
