La gare de Brecon Free Street desservait Brecon, dans le comté historique du Pays de Galles de Brecknockshire, maintenant Powys.
Le Brecon and Merthyr Railway a obtenu une loi du Parlement le 1er août 1859 pour construire une ligne entre Talybont et Pant. Les services de train entre Brecon et Pant ont officiellement commencé le 23 avril 1863, mais deux trains par jour circulaient depuis le 19 mars 1863 depuis sa première gare à Watton. Le Neath and Brecon Railway avait une gare temporaire à Brecon Mount Street en 1868, mais une gare conjointe a été ouverte à Free Street en 1871 remplaçant les deux gares séparées.
