La route de Methoni-Finikounda traverse une série de collines construites à partir de flysch. En chemin, vous pouvez voir les couches fortement plissées du flysch qui vous donnent un aperçu des forces tectoniques qui ont agi sur ces roches. Ici, vous obtenez une collection de toutes sortes de plis dans la roche : anticlinaux, synclinaux, plis en genoux, plis en valise,... Cela ressemble à un manuel géologique.
Le flysch est une roche fortement stratifiée avec des alternances de grès et d'argile. Le flysch a été déposé sous l'eau, près du rivage, lorsque d'énormes quantités de matériau se sont érodées des montagnes et se sont déposées dans la mer. Cette roche est associée à des phases d'orogenèse. Après le dépôt de la roche, elle a été fortement plissée, comme vous pouvez le voir ici.
