L'église est située à 1,6 kilomètres à l'ouest-nord-ouest du village de Kildimo, dans la partie ouest de la vallée de Maigue, au sud-ouest du lac Dromore et du lac Bleach.
Samuel Lewis a incorrectement affirmé qu'elle avait été construite par les Knights Templar en 1290. Cependant, d'autres datent l'église à avant 1100, voire aussi tôt que le 5ème siècle après J.-C. La plupart des chercheurs la datent au 9ème siècle.
