L'amphithéâtre romain était un édifice monumental de l'ancienne Bénévent. Les sources historiques suggèrent qu'il existait en l'an 63, car Néron assista à un spectacle de gladiateurs dans la ville. Les vestiges de l'édifice ont été découverts en 1985 entre la via Munazio Planco et le pont Leproso. Une partie de l'édifice est enterrée sous les voies de la ligne de chemin de fer Benevento-Cancello.
