Wemeldinge est situé sur l'Oosterschelde et l'embouchure nord du Canal de Zuid-Beveland. Dans le passé, on vivait surtout de la pêche et de la récolte des huîtres (La Baie des Huîtres). Entre-temps, les touristes ont découvert le petit village. Wemeldinge dispose en 2004 d'un grand port de plaisance, de nombreux chalets de vacances et de deux campings.
