Wemeldinge está ubicada en el Oosterschelde y la desembocadura norte del Canal de Zuid-Beveland. En tiempos antiguos, se vivía principalmente de la pesca y la captura de ostras (La Bahía de las Ostras). A estas alturas, los turistas han descubierto el pueblo. Wemeldinge tiene en 2004 un gran puerto deportivo, numerosos bungalós de vacaciones y dos campings.
