La Sint-Jan se trouve à l'angle de la Parade et de la Torenstraat, où se situe l'entrée principale, et impressionne par ses dimensions et sa richesse en sculptures. Construite à l'origine comme église paroissiale, la Sint-Jan fut élevée au rang d'église capítulo en 1366 et en 1559 au statut de cathédrale du nouveau diocèse de 's-Hertogenbosch. Le 22 juin 1929, la Sint-Jan se vit accorder le titre honorifique de basilique. Le bâtiment a la forme d'une église à croix, plus précisément d'une croix-basilique.
