En effet, cette église d'Ede est très ancienne. La forme actuelle de l'église a été adoptée en 1643, à l'exception de la nef nord qui n'a été ajoutée qu'au 20e siècle. Mais en 1216, une église était déjà mentionnée à cet endroit. Le cimetière, toujours présent à côté d'une église, n'est plus ici. Il a été démoli en 1970 pour faire place à la construction du nouvel hôtel de ville. En raison de la bonne acoustique et de l'orgue particulier de 1877, des concerts d'orgue sont régulièrement organisés dans l'Ancienne Église.
