Inderdaad, deze Edese kerk is zeer oud. De huidige vorm van de kerk kreeg deze in 1643, uitgezonderd de noordbeuk die pas in de 20e eeuw werd aangebracht. Maar in 1216 werd er op deze plaats al een kerk vermeld. Het altijd bij een kerk aanwezige kerkhof vinden we hier niet meer. Het werd in 1970 geruimd om plaats te maken voor de nieuwbouw van het gemeentehuis.
Vanwege de goede akoestiek en het bijzondere orgel uit 1877, worden er regelmatig orgelconcerten gehouden in de Oude Kerk.
