En 1983, Frank Storbeck, informaticien, géologue et chercheur à l'Université d'Amsterdam, a calculé la position exacte du centre de gravité des Pays-Bas. L'ordinateur a désigné un champ dans la forêt de Sprielderbos, dans la commune de Putten, situé à la croisée de la Peppelerweg et de l'Oude Prinsenweg. Le centre de gravité est quelque chose de différent du point central des Pays-Bas, qui est situé sur une colline dans les forêts de Lunteren. Certains appellent le centre de gravité le point autour duquel la masse d'un corps est uniformément répartie. Harrie Hageman a eu l'idée originale d'enrichir l'emplacement précis du centre de gravité d'un repère.
