Le fort Hedikhuizen près du village d'Hedikhuizen dans la commune de Heusden a été construit en 1862. Il faisait partie de la Ligne d'eau du Sud et était utilisé pour protéger la vanne d'inondation. La vanne permettait de faire entrer de l'eau de la Meuse à l'intérieur des digues de manière contrôlée, permettant ainsi d'inonder une vaste zone pour protéger la forteresse de Heusden contre une attaque.
