La place Suriname à Amsterdam-Ouest relie la Hoofdweg au Cornelis Lelylaan et est connectée à l'Overtoom et à l'Amstelveenseweg par la Surinamestraat.
La place a été nommée en 1922 d'après la colonie néerlandaise indépendante Suriname, qui est devenue indépendante en 1975, située sur la côte nord de l'Amérique du Sud. Les rues du quartier au nord de la place portent également des noms de concepts géographiques provenant du Suriname et des Antilles néerlandaises. C'est pourquoi le quartier a été nommé par la municipalité le quartier des Indes occidentales, mais aujourd'hui cette zone est connue sous le nom de Postjesbuurt.
