Le Galgeven, avec ses 16 hectares, est l'un des plus grands étangs des forêts d'Oisterwijk. Au début du 19ème siècle, cet étang est tombé entre les mains de fabricants de textiles de Tilburg qui l'ont utilisé pour laver la laine. Sur les collines environnantes se trouvaient autrefois un gibet et un moulin à fouler : un moulin industriel actionné par la force du vent que l'on utilisait pour "fouler" la laine, c'est-à-dire pour la retravailler.
