Ce buste a été érigé à la mémoire du poète majorero Domingo Juan Manrique (1869-1934) à l'initiative du journaliste Leoncio Rodríguez González.
Elle a été réalisée par le sculpteur Miguel Márquez Peñate et inaugurée sur la Plaza del Adelantado le 27 janvier 1952.
Domingo Juan Manrique était un écrivain canarien , né à San Cristóbal de La Laguna en 1869 et mort à Madrid en 1934.
Domingo Juan Manrique était professeur de calligraphie à l'Institut des Îles Canaries. Il était laid et sentimental et participait à tous les concours de poésie des îles. Le poème El Mencey de Abona est l'une de ses œuvres les plus remarquables.
