La via Leopold II curva in un elegante arco attorno alla statua di donna più famosa di Ostenda: La Mare. Collo desnudo è un altro nome per questa dama, ma nel linguaggio comune è sempre chiamata "Dikke Mathille". Lo scultore Georges Grard aveva una predilezione per il nudo femminile nella sua opera. In La Mare rappresentò la ricchezza e la sensualità del mare in una figura femminile. Fino al 1963, l'opera d'arte adornava il Kursaal.
