Sulla piazza G. Maczek, vicino al Mercato della Tela, è stato eretto un autentico carro armato Sherman come monumento in memoria della liberazione della città da parte della Prima Divisione Corazzata Polacca sotto il comando del Generale Stanislaw Maczek nel 1944. Anche il generale Maczek è stato immortalato in una creazione in bronzo di Jef Claerhout a Tielt. In occasione del 50° anniversario della liberazione di Tielt e della regione, la statua è stata svelata in piazza Polonia nel giorno della liberazione, l'8 settembre 1994. Ancora oggi diversi luoghi commemorativi ricordano gli otto soldati polacchi caduti a Tielt, che hanno trovato il loro ultimo riposo nel cimitero militare di Tielt.
