Spazzacamini, orafi, falegnami… le strade del complesso Cité Hellemans richiamano i vecchi mestieri del quartiere popolare delle Marolles. All'apertura nel 1915, la Cité Hellemans, dedicata all'architetto Émile Hellemans, è stato il primo importante progetto di edilizia sociale gestito dalla città di Bruxelles.
Nel corso del 20° secolo sono seguiti molti altri progetti di edilizia sociale nella zona. Oggi le Marolles sono uno dei quartieri più diversi e multiculturali della regione. Residenti e visitatori si incontrano al mercato delle pulci quotidiano in piazza Vossen. Qui trovi di tutto, dall'autentico ciarpame a pezzi d'antiquariato, fino a biciclette di seconda, terza o quarta mano.
TIP: Se non te la senti di salire verso il Palazzo di Giustizia, prendi l'ascensore per ciclisti e pedoni in piazza Bruegel.
