La parte più antica rimasta dell'abbazia benedettina risalente all'inizio del XII secolo è il portale gotico a sesto acuto situato in Minneveldstraat. Esso conserva ancora l'originale portone in legno di quercia, rivestito con bande e chiodi in ferro battuto. Il portico in pietra arenaria fu ampliato e ristrutturato in mattoni nel XVIII secolo e forse anche nel XIX secolo. Nel XIX secolo fu utilizzato per un certo periodo come municipio. Nell'abbazia, nel 1312, è stata firmata dal Duca Giovanni II la famosa 'Carta di Kortenberg'.
