La Koppenberg, il leggendario colle di Melden, ha regalato in passato molto spettacolo durante il Giro delle Fiandre. È qui che Jesper Skibby cadde nel 1987, quando la sua bicicletta fu travolta da un'auto di supporto ufficiale della Federazione Belga dei Ciclisti. Questo provocò una notevole indignazione popolare che portò alla rimozione della Koppenberg dal percorso per molti anni.
Eddy Merckx una volta commentò sulla Koppenberg quanto segue: 'Si potrebbero fare salire i corridori anche con la bicicletta in spalla, su una scala.'
La strada di ciottoli lunga 430 m ha una pendenza massima del 22%. L'intera salita è lunga 600 m e va da 13 m a 77 m.
