La chiesa fu fondata intorno al 650 dal conte Madelgar, che si ritirò dalla vita mondana. L'edificio attuale risale principalmente ai secoli X e XI ed è uno dei migliori esempi di architettura romanica in Belgio. La chiesa ha due torri notevoli che dominano il profilo della città e simboleggiano la ricca storia di Zinnik.
Vincentius, il santo patrono della chiesa, è anche il patrono di, tra gli altri, copritetti, viticoltori e marinai.
