La iglesia fue fundada alrededor del 650 por el conde Madelgar, quien se retiró de la vida mundana. El edificio actual data principalmente de los siglos X y XI y es uno de los mejores ejemplos de arquitectura románica en Bélgica. La iglesia tiene dos torres notables que dominan la imagen de la ciudad y simbolizan la rica historia de Zinnik.
Vincentius, el santo patrón de la iglesia, también es el protector de, entre otros, los techadores, viticultores y marineros.
