L'area è composta da dune e misura 152 ha. Sebbene l'area non sia accessibile a causa della sua vulnerabilità, è stato realizzato un rete di sentieri, mentre sono state predisposte anche aree giochi. L'area è gestita dall'Agenzia per la Natura e il Bosco. L'area è protetta a livello europeo come parte della direttiva habitat Natura 2000 'Zone dunose inclusa la foce dell'IJzer e lo Zwin'.
