Das Gebiet besteht aus Dünen und umfasst 152 ha. Obwohl das Gebiet aufgrund seiner Verletzlichkeit nicht zugänglich ist, wurde ein Netzwerk von Wanderwegen angelegt, während auch an Spielplätze gedacht wurde. Das Gebiet wird von der Agentur für Natur und Wald verwaltet. Das Gebiet ist europaweit geschützt als Teil des Natura 2000-Habitat-Richtliniengebiets 'Dünengebiete einschließlich IJzermündung und Zwin'.
