La zone est composée de dunes et mesure 152 ha. Bien que la zone ne soit pas accessible en raison de sa vulnérabilité, un réseau de sentiers de randonnée a été aménagé, avec des aires de jeux également prévues. La zone est gérée par l'Agence pour la Nature et les Forêts. La zone est protégée au niveau européen en tant que partie de la directive habitats Natura 2000 'Zones dunaire, y compris l'embouchure de l'Ijzer et le Zwin'.
