Il 17 dicembre 1944, all'incrocio di Baugnez, si è svolto il 'Massacro di Malmedy', un vero crimine di guerra. L'unità di combattimento tedesca Kampftruppe Peiper uccise allora 82 prigionieri di guerra americani. Su ogni pietra nera e rettangolare del muro commemorativo è inciso il nome di una delle vittime.
La stessa unità delle SS commise quel giorno e nei giorni successivi ulteriori massacri di massa, tra cui a Honsfeld e Büllingen. Nel 1946 i membri delle SS furono processati a Dachau dalla corte marziale.
