Le « Massacre de Baugnez » est un crime de guerre commis le 17 décembre 1944 par le Kampftruppe Peiper au carrefour de Baugnez. Ce jour-là, 82 prisonniers de guerre américains ont été assassinés. Chacune des pierres noires rectangulaires insérées dans le mur du monument aux morts porte le nom d’une victime.
La même division SS a également perpétré ce jour-là et les jours suivants d’autres exécutions massives, notamment à Honsfeld et à Bullange. Ces faits ont été jugés en 1946 à Dachau devant un tribunal militaire.
