Questa collina coperta d'erba era un tempo 'Singelberg': il castello dei signori di Beveren. Durante la Guerra degli Ottant'anni, il generale spagnolo Alessandro Farnese diresse da questo castello l'assedio di Anversa. Nel 1585 il sindaco di Anversa Filippo di Marnix di Sint-Aldegonde firmò qui la resa della sua città. Questa sconfitta portò infine alla divisione dei Paesi Bassi.
