La stazione di Bodegem si trovava nella prima guerra mondiale lungo un'importante linea ferroviaria Bruxelles-Gent e per questo motivo fu invasa per quattro anni da soldati tedeschi. Truppe, armi e feriti, tutto passava per Bodegem. I soldati tedeschi requisirono la linea ferroviaria nell'estate del 1914 e la sorvegliarono giorno e notte. Tutti quei soldati dovevano trovare riparo di notte. Per questo motivo si decise di sistemare tutti i soldati nelle fattorie vicine, come ad esempio nella Honsemhoeve.
