La estación de Bodegem se encontraba en la Primera Guerra Mundial a lo largo de una importante conexión ferroviaria Bruselas-Gante y, por lo tanto, fue inundada durante cuatro años por soldados alemanes. Tropas, armas y heridos, todo pasaba por Bodegem. Los soldados alemanes tomaron la línea de tren en el verano de 1914 y la vigilaron día y noche. Todos esos soldados tenían que encontrar refugio por la noche. Por eso, se decidió alojar a todos los soldados en las granjas cercanas, como por ejemplo en la Honsemhoeve.
