Fino ad oggi si possono ancora vedere tracce nel paesaggio che sono testimoni silenziosi del ricco e tumultuoso passato dell'Abazia. Le attività dei monaci dell'Abazia di Affligem hanno avuto un grande impatto sul paesaggio circostante. L'enorme e vasto bosco di carbone ha lasciato spazio a un paesaggio più variegato con boschi, prati, campi e frutteti ad alto fusto. Erano bordati da filari di alberi, recinzioni in legno, siepi e cespugli. I monaci hanno creato stagni, campi di luppolo e vigneti. Hanno estratto cave di arenaria per la costruzione di chiese, abbazie, fattorie, mulini ad acqua e mulini a vento. Imponenti viali conducono a Moorsel, Aalst e Asse. Fino ad oggi nel paesaggio si possono trovare tracce di quella affascinante storia.
