Nel Cimitero Comunale di Mechelen ci sono tre tombe di guerra del Commonwealth, tombe di Veterani e un gran numero di tombe di guerra belga della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, soprattutto di vittime di bombardamenti alleati e attacchi V1. A causa dei bombardamenti alleati, 342 abitanti hanno perso la vita. Il cimitero ha anche due monumenti commemorativi: uno per i Veterani e uno per il prigioniero politico belga Désiré Bouchery. Un monumento commemorativo progettato da Boudewijn Tuerlinckx onora i caduti durante la Prima e la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Il monumento è posto su due ampie scale, rendendolo visibile da lontano e proiettandosi sopra il luogo d'onore.
