Il castello circondato da un fossato "Ter Beken" fu costruito nel XVIII secolo al confine tra Drongen e Mariakerke, sul sito di un castello feudale che era di proprietà del signore di der Beken, signore di Drongen. All'inizio del XX secolo, l'industriale di Gand Armand Casier divenne il proprietario di Ter Beken e ne dispose il restauro. Durante entrambe le guerre mondiali subì molti danni. Fino ad oggi è di proprietà della diocesi di Gand, che nel 1955 lo ha trasformato nel cosiddetto seminario di San Paolo. Degli interni, vale la pena di notare in particolare i magnifici saloni arredati in stile impero e rococò.
