"Nella notte tra il 26 e il 27 aprile, una flotta aerea di 557 aerei fu inviata a Duisburg per colpire obiettivi a terra. Durante il volo di ritorno verso la loro base a Langar (Regno Unito), il Lancaster I W4171 con codice fusoliera "E-MJ" fu attaccato da un cacciatore notturno tedesco. L'aereo si schiantò nei campi dietro la Volmolenbaan.
Tutti i membri dell'equipaggio persero la vita nello schianto.
Le vittime sono sepolte nel cimitero di Schoonselhof a Anversa."
