Il castello di Hardenstein è una rovina situata nella media Ruhr tra il quartiere di Herbede e il centro di Witten, nell'attuale distretto di Ennepe-Ruhr, in Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia, Germania. È circondata dall'omonima area naturale protetta di Hardenstein e si trova nelle vicinanze della Muttentals. Fino al completamento della Ruhrtalbahn nel diciannovesimo secolo, il castello si trovava direttamente sul fiume. Tipologicamente, l'impianto conosciuto da tempo come castello è una "casa forte" - cioè una villa signorile. Servì principalmente come residenza dei suoi nobili proprietari e quindi era solo parzialmente difensivo.
