Langel confina a sud-est con Ranzel e a sud con Lülsdorf, entrambi quartieri di Niederkassel, e a ovest con il Reno e a nord con il quartiere di Colonia Zündorf. Sul lato ovest del Reno si trovano i quartieri di Colonia Godorf e Sürth.
Langel viene menzionato per la prima volta nel 965 come Langalon. Fin dal Medioevo, il luogo apparteneva all'amministrazione di Porz nel ducato di Berg. Nel 1635 furono emanate disposizioni per l'immigrazione. Successivamente, ogni nuovo cittadino doveva prestare giuramento. Ogni abitante del villaggio era tenuto, su disposizione dell'abbazia di San Pantaleone, a provvedere alla torre dell'orologio e alle campane della chiesa parrocchiale cattolica. Inoltre, era necessario provvedere al parroco e al sacrestano.
