Overath è una città di medie dimensioni appartenente al circondario di Rheinisch-Bergischer nel sud della Renania Settentrionale-Vestfalia. Il luogo è stato menzionato per la prima volta nell'anno 1060.
Il centro principale si trova a circa 25 chilometri a est di Colonia nella valle dell'Aggertal, nel Bergisches Land. Le altre località si trovano nella valle dell'Aggertal, nella vicina valle della Sülz e sulle colline circostanti.
